Mix the flour, baking powder, margarine and sugar together until the mixture resembles crumbs. Add the chocolate drops and syrup and continue mixing until the ingredients come together as as a stiff dough.
Turn the mixture out onto a floured surface. Form into a roll approximately 9cm (3 1/2in) in diameter and slice into eight. (Dinner ladies divide up the mixture into manageable portions first.)
Place the cookies onto a greased tray and bake in the preheated oven for 20-30 minutes until pale golden brown. Do not overcook.
